Chris Moss lived in Buenos Aires from 1991 to 2001, where he worked as an arts writer for the Buenos Aires Herald. He is travel and books editor at Time Out magazine, has edited several books for Time Out Guides, and regularly contributes travel features to the Daily Telegraph and Condé Nast Traveller. He is a music writer, specialising in Latin American rhythms, and reviews and compiles world music CDs – especially tango. His book Patagonia: A Cultural History was published by Signal Books/OUP in July 2008 and he is now working on a book about tango, psychoanalysis, sex and steak.
Hugh Thomson is an explorer, film-maker and writer who believes the world is not as thoroughly explored as we like to believe. His most recent book is Tequila Oil: Getting Lost in Mexico, now available in paperback.
Alan Angell is Emeritus Fellow of St Antony’s College, Oxford and was formerly University Lecturer in Latin American Politics and Director of the Latin American Centre. His first published work was a study of the union movement in Chile published during the Allende government. He was made a Gran Oficial of the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins in 2007 for academic work on the country and for support for human rights during the Pinochet dictatorship. He has published widely, not only on Chilean politics but on the left in Latin America and aspects of social policy.
Michael Jacobs was born in Italy and studied art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art. The Hispanic world has obsessed him since childhood and his numerous books include Andalucía, Between Hopes and Memories: A Spanish Journey, Ghost Train through the Andes, and The Factory of Light: Tales from my Andalucían Village, which was shortlisted for the 2004 Thomas Cook Travel Book Award. He is a broadcaster on Spanish National Radio and in 2002 was made the first foreign knight of ‘The Very Noble and Illustrious Order of the Wooden Spoon’. For the last two years he has been chairman of the Dolman Travel Book Award.
