When first published, Gruber's Public Finance and Public Policy brought a refreshingly contemporary approach. It was the first text written from the ground up to reflect current realities of public finance, enhancing its survey of traditional topics with an emphasis on empirical work and coverage of transfer programs and social insurance. The new edition, fully updated with the most recent data and research possible, includes new coverage of the Medicare drug benefit, changes in the tax code, Hurricane Katrina, and the ongoing debate over privatization.

Great Shape! Only a few stray pencil marks.

Came on time and in very good shape. Like-new, indeed! The book itself reads like a public finance and policy texbook (which it is) so a bit dull, but informative and for class so, obviously I'm going to read it anyway. The author does provide a bit of humor and it is definitely not the most boring textbook I've ever read. The charts and graphs are a nice touch and liven the text.

Thorough and Helpful; Rambles at times
Reviewed in the United States on 19 November 2012Verified Purchase
Gruber's text is well-written and relevant. Admittedly not as concise as it could be, as a student I didn't mind the length at some portions because things were thoroughly explained. As economics texts go, this is probably the least "dry" I've encountered.
Gruber uses relevant and concise examples to illustrate points and inserts some humor to keep the read a little easier.
As another reviewer noted, this text can ramble on a bit much at times, but intelligent skimming through use of subtitles and keywords can avoid that. The problems are good, but at times can be more confusing than necessary.
