“This is another book which is extremely funny whilst also being extremely bleak. Again, the dystopia stuff is the B-plot. It’s not the main thing: the main thing is a spicy queer retelling of Moby-Dick in space – or depending on your view of Moby-Dick, it’s just a retelling in space, because you can certainly read a lot of that into the original. So yes: it’s out in space. It is in the far future. Earth is completely abandoned, and people are living in various colonies across the solar system and hunting vast leviathans that live in the upper atmosphere of Jupiter.
