Meet the Georgians by Robert Peal, teacher of history at the West London Free School, does a brilliant job of bridging the gap. There are 12 chapters, each about a different 18th century character, and so much fun to read. The general premise is that this was a wild time before things got dull and straitlaced under the Victorians.
