“I thought it was great. It was very interesting. There was a lot in it about his father, Ai Qing, and the time the Party suppressed his poetry and didn’t allow him to keep writing. There were a lot of scenes from struggle sessions (or ‘education sessions’, as they would have called them) in the places where they were exiled. There was a lot about just the general toughness of life.
