Raising Hare
by Chloe Dalton
A debut memoir about a workaholic political advisor who leaves London during the COVID lockdown to spend time in the country. When out for a walk one day, she comes across a tiny baby hare (a leverett) no bigger than the palm of her hand, which against all advice, she adopts and rears, preparing it for its return to the wild. A gentle, inspiring and enchanting book.

“Raising Hare is quite a magical story of a woman who had a pretty full life in politics. During lockdown, she was in the countryside, and she developed a relationship with a hare, which is an animal that is not normally domesticated. She finds it injured and brings this leveret home to care for it. It’s a story about the relationship between her and this leveret, but also a very deep contemplation about our connection to the natural world. It’s written with enormous grace and gentleness. It’s quite a slow book, but it is very profound, and I think it moved all of us, while raising some important questions about how we interact with the natural world, and the effect of the human on the natural world.” Read more...
