What to get a child who loves to read? Ideally, books. We have many kids’ book recommendations on the site, which we hope you’ll browse to find the perfect book for your child to curl up with. But should they also be interested in a non-book gift, here are some suggestions that have worked for our under-14s.
1
Codenames is a wonderful game for kids who love words. It gets them making connections and thinking about multiple meanings, while pretending to be spies. It's also a lot of fun to play with the whole family, as even adults will find their brains challenged.
2
There's nothing kids love more than a head torch to read secretly in bed after lights out.
3
Kids love having a Kindle of their own. It's a really nice way of keeping the voracious reader going without having to make too many trips to the bookshop or the library. On holiday it is essential if you don't want them making off with yours.
4
We asked a few kids what they thought was essential for reading, and a comfortable, cosy spot ranked highly as a requirement. A nice blanket or a warm pair of slippers would both make excellent gifts for a child who loves to read.
5
Have you read Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo or at least watched the Disney movie? This year seemed an important time to celebrate France's great Gothic cathedral, and what better way to do that than by building a 3D puzzle?
