Manifesto
by Hans Küng
Hans Küng is a theologian who is one of the world’s leading theological scholars and someone who I greatly admire. What he has done, with a lot of colleagues and building on a lifetime of work studying all the major religions, is to propose that, despite their frequent conflicts, at the core of all these great religions is a common set of values which can be the basis for a true global ethic. And, of course, I admire the tremendous learning that goes into this because it is not merely a high sentiment, it is actually based on a lifetime of thought and study.
Islam: Past, Present & Future
by Hans Küng
Küng is undoubtedly the most enlightened Catholic philosopher of our time. This is a monumental work: it covers the evolution and development of Islam, the present crisis of Muslim civilisation, and looks at what Küng calls ‘possibilities for the future’. Islam is the last in a trilogy which has also covered Judaism and Christianity. And Küng is simply brilliant in making connections between the three monotheistic faiths and highlighting the areas of convergence.
