Marquez is a Nobel Laureate and probably the most famous author in Colombian history. The book is essentially a chronicle about a Colombian family in an imaginary village. While it's not everyone's kind of book it's definitely a must read.
2
Another of Colombia’s favourite writers. A great introduction and overview of the convoluted political history of the country. It’s about a school teacher from a rural town in the south of the country who sees his world end by the violence in his hometown caused by the guerrillas and government. A bit sad but a good one!
3
This is a must if you are planning to watch Narcos on Netflix...It’s an accurate account of Pablo’s life as drug lord and the “unlawful” efforts made by the American government to bring him down.
4
I love this book because it shows a more “positive,” realistic side of Colombia. It looks at how Colombia has prospered and maintained economic growth despite all the stereotypes about drugs and violence..
5
And finally, another bestselling novel.
