A genre that provides some much-needed escapism in the ordinary, monotonous nature of our lives. Who doesn’t love books that increases the stakes to life or death? Books with wondrous magical systems? Books where you can truly forget about Earth and be transported elsewhere?
1
A children's classic. A novel that I countlessly read again and again as a kid, falling in love with the adventures of Jo, Bessie and Fanny. A great start to introduce someone to fantasy and its limitless boundaries.
2
Reading this as a young girl, it genuinely touched my soul. I adore the complexity of Sophie, and the message that Agatha portrays is one that I still hold very dear to my heart. Their friendship was lovely and confusing and amazing to read.
3
Their is something so incredibly precious about a found-family trope. Bardugo creates beautiful, intricate characters with motives and two high-stakes books to keep readers turning and turning the pages until the morning sun seeps through the windows.
4
The Starless Sea is beautifully, beautifully written. It is mystifying, a novel quite simply written for the people who wish to escape, who have found a home within the pages of books and have no wish to leave. It is a gift for people like me and you.
5
Probably one of my favourite Christmas presents. A Boy Called Christmas is for all children, a book that bursts with magic and hope and a heartrending journey about how Father Christmas became Father Christmas.
