This book is about the totalitarian, state controlled political party Ingsoc and a man, Winston, who disobeys the regime. It encourages the reader to consider the influence a government can have over our society and warns against the dangers of totalitarianism.

This is the story of a Jewish girl who was forced to hide from the Nazis in an annex in Amsterdam. She wrote about the experience in a diary she recieved on her 13th birthday. Her story shows great courage and she is a positive role model.

Lord of the Flies is set on a remote island on which a group of school boys become stranded. Their society descends from civilisation to savagery. The book conveys a message about how everyone, even innocent school boys, contain man’s inherent evil.

Although it is a play and not a book, DNA explores topics such as peer pressure, responsibility and leadership. A group of teenagers try to cover up Adam’s death after they threw stones at him, causing him to fall into a grille. They end up framing an innocent man. However, it is later revealed that Adam is actually alive.

This is my favourite book from my childhood. It is a story about a little girl, called Matilda, who is incredibly bright. She realises she has telekinetic powers which she uses to get revenge on her parents and Miss Trunchbull.
