Maigret and the Headless Corpse
by Georges Simenon
Maigret and the Headless Corpse (1955) by Georges Simenon is set in the Quai de Valmy in Paris, and kicks off when parts of a corpse are found in the propeller of a barge. Much of the investigation takes place in bars and bistros in the area, with Detective Chief Inspector Maigret drinking a glass of wine shortly after arriving at the scene of the crime, even though it’s first thing in the morning.
