Communists and Their Law
by John N Hazard
To my mind this is one of the best books written about law of the Communist-era regimes including regimes such as Keita’s Mali to Castro’s Cuba. At the time, everyone who worked in Soviet law debated whether in fact Soviet Law actually constituted a “new kind of legal system”. This book makes the argument that Soviet law (and the law of other socialist countries) really did. The Soviets believed that they were really creating a new independent legal world that would last thousands of years.
