In addition to the complicated history of the islands starting with Magellan, he includes several wonderful personal stories. His uncle Spanky who was literally a rock star in the Philippines became a baggage handler at the airport in California. His mother who darts in and out of the story, is a Trumper and a QAnon follower. She gets catfished by a guy from an online dating site.
