Our Common Future
by World Commission on Environment and Development
This seminal 1987 publication was based on the work of the Commission, which included public hearings on five continents over a three-year period. The report defines sustainable development as ‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’.
